Meredith College held its first Hunger Week from March 28-April 1, 2022, as part of a national effort to bring awareness to hunger and homelessness. The week is part of the Angels are Aware Campaign, designed to raise awareness about food insecurity both on campus and in the community as well as connect students with resources available to help alleviate hunger and food insecurity.
20th Celebrating Student Achievement Day Held as Hybrid Conference
On April 7, 2022, Meredith College hosted its 20th Celebrating Student Achievement (CSA) Day as a hybrid conference. CSA Day is an annual celebration of student achievement, including research presentations, posters, performances, creative projects, awards, exhibits, and more.
Faculty Distinguished Lecture Focuses on Alchemy and Religion in Roman Egypt
Professor of Religious and Ethical Studies Shannon Grimes presented Meredith’s 2021-22 Faculty Distinguished Lecture on April 5, 2022, exploring the origins of alchemy in Roman Egypt.
In her lecture, Grimes shared a richer and more complex picture of alchemy, which is rooted in the artisanal traditions of ancient Egyptian temples where gold-making was associated with god-making.
Meredith College Awarded Grant to Address Disparities in STEM
Meredith College has received a grant from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) to support PERSIST (Pipeline Enhancement to Retain Students via Inclusive STEM Training), a program aiming to address the disparities in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers of women and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
Plan Announced to Change Academic Building Name as Part of Anti-Racism Initiative
In the summer of 2020, Meredith College launched a College-Wide Initiative on Anti-Racism, which is focused on making Meredith more inclusive and welcoming in the present while also leading efforts to understand the realities of the College’s history.
