Meredith College Names Aimee Sapp its Ninth President

By Melyssa Allen

The Meredith College Board of Trustees introduced Aimee W. Sapp as the College’s ninth president during a campus celebration on March 27, 2024.

President-elect Sapp brings more than 25 years of higher education experience at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri, advancing from assistant professor to provost and chief academic officer. She has held the chief academic officer position since 2013.

“Since its inception, Meredith has provided women with a transformative education,” Sapp said. “The next president must keep an eye on the past to celebrate the richness of all that the College has been for over 130 years. Equally so, the president must confidently embrace the challenges and opportunities of the future, being mindful of what the College can become, and convinced that our best days are still ahead.”

President-elect Sapp looks forward to leading the next chapter of Meredith College’s history.

“I am inspired by Meredith College’s commitment to women’s education, academic excellence, and a diverse and inclusive community,” Sapp said. “I am eager to contribute my skills and experience in higher education leadership toward Meredith’s continued growth and success.”

President-elect Sapp holds a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Missouri, a master’s degree in speech communication from the University of Northern Colorado, and a bachelor of science in sociology from William Woods College.

Sapp will succeed President Jo Allen, who is retiring after 13 years at the helm. A member of the Class of 1980, Allen was the first alumna to serve as Meredith’s president.

“I am excited for Meredith College as we embrace this next pivotal chapter, excited for the fresh perspectives and visionary leadership that our ninth president will bring,” said President Allen. “The Meredith College legacy is strong, and I am confident that Meredith’s next president, buoyed by the support of all of you, will carry this legacy forward with honor, innovation, and an enduring commitment to our core values.”

Meredith College’s new leader was chosen after a national search. The Presidential Search Committee included representatives from the faculty, staff, student body, and Board of Trustees. Sapp will take office as Meredith’s ninth president on July 1, 2024.
