After leading the new Innovation Academy at South Campus over the last four years, Kelley Davidson Johnson was asked to transition to lead the new Johnston County Virtual Academy (JCVA) in fall 2021. The JCVA is a K-12 school that offers flexible and self-paced virtual learning opportunities to nearly 1,400 students both within and outside of Johnston County. This also allows students to access extracurricular activities like sports at base schools, tuition-free college courses, post-secondary advising, and opportunities for social interactions.

In September 2021, Meredith Lawhon Manz started her own company, Manz Coaching & Consulting LLC. With over 20 years of global human resources leadership experience, Manz will be focused on coaching individuals at every level of the organization along with team coaching/team dynamics, and human capital projects.

Sarah Fawn McLamb began a new role as the K-12 fine arts teaching and learning specialist for Johnston County Public Schools in February 2022. McLamb is looking forward to serving the Arts Education Teachers in her district while connecting and collaborating with Meredith students and alumnae involved in arts education.

Since receiving an international job transfer almost two years ago, Rye Anderson Myers and her family have been enjoying their new home in Oakville, Ontario. Myers and her family have met many wonderful new friends from around the globe. Myers is embracing her family’s second year of homeschooling with Classical Conversations and is loving this program. Myers and her family were able to accompany her husband on a trip to Singapore in February of 2022. While logistics were challenging with COVID restrictions abounding, they made the trip safely and had a great time creating life-long memories.

Earning her Licensed Clinical Social Worker license, Melissa Denning Schmerling has entered into private practice and is working with the aging population.

After moving to Mount Airy, N.C. in 2021, Krystal Tyndall began serving as the assistant principal of Mount Airy High School. In November 2021, Tyndall successfully defended her dissertation and graduated with her doctoral degree in education in May 2022. She is excited and grateful to reach her lifelong goal of becoming a doctor. Alongside this achievement, Tyndall is also celebrating the tenth year of Fishin’ for a Cure, the nonprofit she founded. She and her team are excited about their goal to reach a million dollars raised for cancer research and awareness. She is proud of the hardworking board members and tremendous support from people across North Carolina and several other states.
