Martha Spence Blount and her husband have stayed well throughout the pandemic. They canceled all trips that were scheduled for 2020 but did travel to San Diego, Calif. for Christmas in 2021. Blount visited with her son and his family. The whole family stayed at their home and did not venture out. Blount had previously been vaccinated and boosted, so she hoped for the best during their trip. Since she enjoys many hobbies, Blount has been well occupied for the past two years. While she did miss being with people, she actually enjoyed staying at home too. Participating in many Zoom meetings, including the Meredith Alumnae Book Club, kept Blount busy. She enjoyed seeing more recent graduates and reports that she was the oldest by almost 10 years. Recently, Blount returned to a sewing retreat in Columbia, N.C., for the first time in two years. She was so happy to get back together with this group and sew for three days. She is hopeful for more trips soon.
Transitioning to apartment living about 18 months ago has been even better than Jean Hege Durham could have hoped. Durham writes that as many know, parting with “stuff” can be traumatic, but now, she is not certain why she kept it all for so many years. Except for a leg that requires use of a walker full-time, Durham is in good health and enjoying life. She can still drive, do volunteer work, and participate in her book groups.
